About CYSCONF — An International Youth Development Conference

The International Conference on Children, Youth, and Society (CYSCONF), an international children and youth conference, will be held in Paris, France, on 10–12 June 2027 at the Novotel Paris 14 Porte d'Orléans. Presenters can take part in person or present live online, and listeners can attend in Paris without submitting a paper.

CYSCONF starts from a simple observation: the questions that matter most for children and young people rarely belong to a single discipline. A study of adolescent wellbeing may draw on psychology, education and public health; research on child poverty involves economics, social policy and family studies. This conference brings those communities together. It is a youth development conference for those who study how young people build skills, relationships and a sense of purpose, and a shared forum for the wider field of childhood and youth research.

The timing matters. Children and young people are growing up with digital technologies that did not exist a generation ago, with changing patterns of family life, and with the effects of migration, inequality and climate change. Schools, services and governments are asked to respond with evidence. Research that listens to children and young people themselves, and that compares their experiences across countries, is increasingly needed.

Our Vision

  • Doctoral and master's students researching childhood, adolescence or young adulthood
  • Policymakers and public officials responsible for children, families, education or youth policy
  • Professionals in non-governmental organisations and industry whose work affects children and young people
  • General attendees who want to follow current research without presenting

Academic Scope of This Child and Youth Research Conference

CYSCONF welcomes theoretical, empirical, methodological and practice-based research on children, adolescents and young adults. Its scope covers development and learning, health and wellbeing, family and community life, rights and protection, and the social, cultural and digital worlds in which young people live. Researchers who usually attend a child and youth research conference will find work on early childhood, adolescence and the transition to adulthood. Those who follow a sociology of childhood conference will find studies of children's agency, children's voices and the social construction of childhood and youth. Interdisciplinary and comparative studies are particularly welcome.

As a youth development conference as well as a forum for childhood studies, CYSCONF is equally open to university researchers and to those working in schools, youth services, child protection, health care, non-governmental organisations and public agencies. Practice-based studies, programme evaluations and policy analyses are considered alongside empirical and theoretical papers, provided they are rigorous and clearly connected to the conference themes. Research from every region is welcome, including studies of children and young people whose experiences are rarely represented in international literature.
